The house is well situated for a large number of activities. Windsor (five and a half miles away) is the home of the royal family - the Queen spends much of her time at the castle. A short walk across the River Thames from Windsor will take you to the world's most famous public school, Eton, attended by Prince Harry and Prince William along with numerous past Prime Ministers.

Also just over a mile away is the famous Royal Ascot racecourse, which is the setting for the lavish Royal Ascot race meet every summer drawing the Royals and the jet-set, some of whom arrive by horse and carriage through the adjacent Windsor Great Park. Regular race meets take place here through out the year, both flat racing and jump racing.

Royal Windsor racecourse set alongside the River Thames also has excellent racing every Monday evening through the summer months. Boats ferry race goers from the town centre to the racecourse a short distance away.

For those with children, Legoland, Chessington World of Adventure and Thorpe Park, some of the country's best theme parks, are all close by with Legoland being less than three miles away.

For sporting enthusiasts, the area is convenient for walking, rowing and golfing. There are numerous golf courses and Wentworth, one of England's most famous courses (home of the world match play), The Royal Berkshire, Sunningdale and Sunningdale Ladies are all only a couple of miles away. For horse lovers there are annual equestrian events including Windsor horse show in May, and Carriage driving and Eventing in the Park.

Windsor Great Park is large (owned by the crown estate) - roughly five miles by five - and home to the herds of Royal deer. There are numerous ponds and you can take a leisurely four and a half mile walk around the perimeter of the beautiful Virginia Water lake, where if you are lucky, along with the local wildlife, you can witness film crews at work (scenes from Harry Potter and Miss Marple have been shot here, for example).

Alternatively take a stroll around Savill Gardens (botanical gardens) or the Valley Gardens which are particularly spectacular in May with the outstanding Magnolias, Camellias, Rhododendrons and Azaleas. Wisley RHS gardens are half an hour by car.

For those with a taste for the high life we are one and a half miles away from the Guards' Club/Smiths Lawn which is situated inside Windsor Great Park - there's usually a match attended by the royals in the summer months and of course the renowned Cartier Polo event is held here in July. The Royal Berkshire Polo Club is also close by.

There are several excellent country pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, including two of the world's best restaurants according to a recent survey, both in the village of Bray close to Windsor and about 20 minutes drive away - The Fat Duck (Hester Blumenthal) has been voted number one in the world and just around the corner is the famous Waterside Inn owned and run by celebrity chef Michel Roux.

London with all it has to offer is 30 miles away and can be easily reached from local railway stations at Windsor and Ascot (55 minutes ride into Waterloo station).

Other historic sites nearby include Runnymede on the River Thames where the Magna Carta was signed, picturesque Henley-on-Thames home of the summer regatta, and countless Thames-side villages.
